100 Best Communities

The City of Columbia, Missouri has been named one of the 100 Best Communities for Young People.  This means that Columbia is a place of promise for youth.  Research shows that youth need 5 main things to succed: Healthy Start, Effective Education, Safe Places, Caring Adults, and Opportunties to Help Others.

So what's your promise?  What commitment will you make to the youth of our community?  How are you going to get involved?

If it's good for the kids, it's good for everybody!

Promises Made...

I promise to watch out for kids playing in my neighborhood.

I promise to teach something everyday.

I promise to help create Safe Places for youth in our community.  Youth in our community need Safe Places where they can participate in educational, social, and recreational activities that will allow them to grow into responsible adults.  These Safe Places should be free of violence and substance abuse and provide opportunties for youth to interact with positive role models and contribute to our community in constructive ways.

I love kids

I will volunteer 1 hour each week at a youth program.

I promise to be a caring adult. I will spend at least 2 hours every week with children, teaching them positive activities, high standards, and helping them to grow into their full potential.

I promise to teach every young person I meet, or know, something that will make their future better or more productive for the rest of my life.
